Preventative Care for Dogs
At Goldsmith Vet Clinic, we see all of our patients on a yearly basis for their annual physical exam. At this examination, we take time to do a thorough physical, talk with you about any changes in lifestyle or behavior and provide the necessary vaccinations and medications for your pet. This time spent together plays an important role in increasing our odds of detecting problems early, before they become severe and costly.
During the exam our doctors will perform:
- Ear and eye examination
- Cardiopulmonary (heart and lung) examination
- Abdominal palpation
- Oral exam
- Dermatological exam
- Musculoskeletal evaluation
Vaccine administration will be based on your dog’s lifestyle and/or breed. Core vaccines include Rabies, Distemper and Leptospirosis. Your veterinarian may also recommend additional vaccines such as Bordetella and Canine Influenza, and we also offer a Rattlesnake vaccination for our outdoorsy dogs and families.
We recommend Parasite Control Products to control parasites such as heartworms, intestinal parasites (such as round worms, hook worms, and whip worms), fleas and ticks. Controlling these parasites helps protect your dog and your family members from easily transmitted parasites.
We will also discuss other services, such as dental care and microchipping that will benefit your dog’s overall health and well-being. Blood work screening can also help identify any internal issues, which cannot be detected during a thorough physical exam. We will also gladly field any questions you might have regarding your pet’s health.
