Certified Veterinary Technician
Alex Aksionav was born and grew up in Vitebsk, Belarus. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine, 2012. At the end of 2014, he moved to the United States. In 2018, Alex enrolled in the ECFVG program of AVMA. In 2020, he passed the National Board Exam ( NAVLE), and he is almost done with his ECFVG certification. He strives to get doctor’s license in the near future and start his own career. In his free time Alex likes hiking, exploring the state of Colorado, making backyard BBQ, and spending time with family and friends.
Ali was born and raised in Centennial Colorado. She received her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Montana State University in 2020. She has always loved working with animals and hopes to attend veterinary school within the next year. In her free time she enjoys horseback riding, hiking, playing with her dog, and camping.
Alyssa was born and raised in Colorado. She’s always had a passion for animals and enjoys working with them everyday. Her favorite dog to work with is any sort of Hound because of their cute legs and jowls. She loves to spend her free time camping and traveling with her two dogs, Betty Lou and Hattie.
Certified Veterinary Technician
Anastasia’s passion for animals began very early in life when she would help her grandmother on her farm in Belarus. She then moved with her family to Colorado, but her passion never ended. Anastasia graduated in 2014 from the Community College of Denver with her Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology. She is continuing her passion for veterinary medicine and is in school taking her prerequisites to get into Colorado State University’s Veterinary Program. When she doesn’t have her nose buried in her books, Anastasia loves going on hikes, paddle boarding, and visiting wineries with her pup, Sir Winston Furchill.
Cari is a proud Colorado native and grew up in the area very near to Goldsmith Veterinary Clinic. In the early days, Cari’s work at Goldsmith was behind the scenes and after hours. Now that her three kids are grown, she works full-time at GVC as the office manager. In her free time, she enjoys traveling to see her children and extended family, gardening, playing and watching sports, and spending time with her animals. Her favorite part about working at Goldsmith is being a part of the community family that has been formed over the 23 years her husband has owned the clinic.
Chris is from Washington, and started working at Goldsmith Veterinary Clinic in 1998. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, riding horses, skiing, and watching baseball. Chris has 3 horses, 2 cats, chickens, fish, and 1 dog. Her favorite part of working at Goldsmith are the clients. “They are so caring about their pets, and it’s fun to share our love of animals. I have made lifelong friends with clients because of our connection to animals.”
Dawn grew up working with large and small animals on a ranch in Nebraska. She got her medical degree from a Nebraska college and now lives with her husband, three kids, and multiple pets at home. She has a dog, two cats, guinea pig, and a turtle. She has been at Goldsmith Veterinary clinic since 2010.
Erin moved to Denver in January 2020 with her husband, Keith, for his job with the US Navy. She grew up on a farm in Indiana with horses, cows, pigs, dogs, cats, and countless pygmy goats. Erin decided to pursue her love for health and fitness in college and spent the 3 years following as an elementary PE teacher and personal trainer. However, with the move to Colorado, she decided she wanted to go back to her roots of working with animals, which led to her finding her new family and home at Goldsmith. In her free time, Erin enjoys being an online personal trainer, being outdoors with her husband, and being a mommy to her fur-baby, Jorge.
Karen grew up in the southeast and moved to Colorado in 2000, feeling the call of the mountains. She is a graduate of the Community College of Denver’s Vet Tech program and joined the Goldsmith team in 2021. She loves to camp and hike with her husband and their dogs Kona (a German Shepherd mix) and Tebow (a Lab mix).
Karen Sass was born and raised in the Denver area. Those few people in Denver she does not already know, she quickly becomes friends with. Karen was raised with animals, notably competing nationally with show jumping horses in her younger days. A mother of 4 grown children, Karen has indulged their love of animals with dogs, cats, chickens, birds and horses all calling her house home. Karen was Dr. Rea’s second full time employee when she joined the practice in 1999. We are so lucky to have Karen to head up our customer service team.
Kat moved to Colorado in 1995 with her husband. Outside of working and volunteering she enjoys nearly any outdoor activity – running, hiking, paddle boarding, walking her dog Lily. Kat also enjoys spending time with her friends and family.
Katy moved to Colorado from Maryland where she grew up. There, she got her Associates degree in general studies and a certificate in Veterinary assistance. In the next year or two she hopes to go back to school to get her Veterinary Tech certificate. She left her best (four legged) friend, Buddy the dog, back in Maryland with her family but brought her rabbit Dexter out to Denver with her. She has also adopted a “feral” barn kitten, Lenny, who came into the clinic and needed a home. In her free time she loves to run, do yoga and explore her new favorite state!
Kendra was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. Kendra’s best friend is her dog, Luffy. When she’s not hanging out with Luffy, she enjoys playing video games, dancing, and sleeping. An interesting fact about Kendra is she doesn’t like breakfast food!
Kristin is originally from South Dakota, and received her B.S. in zoology from South Dakota State University. She went on to become a certified Medical Technologist and spent a few years working in human hospitals in North Carolina and Denver before making the much-needed switch to veterinary medicine! In 1999, she joined the veterinary staff at the Denver Zoo as a Medical Technologist and Veterinary Technician. In 2015, she began working at Goldsmith, and can now enjoy her free time with her husband and her wonderful daughter, Taylor. She has 2 dogs, a kitten, and a salt-water fish tank.
Specialty coordinator & Veterinary Assistant
Laura moved to Colorado in 2016 from Virginia. She has been working in the veterinary field since 2015 and at Goldsmith since the beginning of 2016. Laura loves spending time outdoors whenever possible and can often be found hiking or camping with her dog, Koda. Other than hiking, Laura enjoys live music, trying new brunch spots, and spending time with friends. Laura also has three kitties (she’s a cat lady for sure) named: Ghost, Arya, and Atlas. Laura has been managing the specialist services that Goldsmith offers since 2019 and has been managing the clinic’s website since 2016. Recently, Laura has gone from full-time at Goldsmith to just working Saturdays while she works on a career in the legal field.
Lauren was born and raised in Larkspur, Colorado. She graduated in May of 2020 from Colorado State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Animal Science with a focus in animal nutrition. In the near future Lauren hopes to apply to veterinary school for a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree. Lauren also has a miniature schnauzer named Zeus. In her free time, Lauren loves watching hockey, going to rodeos, or camping and kayaking in the beautiful Colorado mountains.
Certified Veterinary Technician
Liz graduated from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology with an Associate Degree of Applied Science in 2005. She continued to pursue her education, graduating from The University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science in 2012. She has worked as a Certified Veterinary Technician in both emergency and general practice since 2005. She lives in Wash Park with her husband Colin as well as a Golden Retriever, Sheltie, Chihuahua, and Siamese. In her free time she enjoys the outdoors, running, hiking, and snowboarding.
Melanie was born and raised in Colorado. She had many family dogs and volunteered at animal shelters. After years in the beauty industry she decided to follow her passion for animals and begin a career in Veterinary medicine. Melanie enjoys playing with her two dogs, eating at new restaurants, and spending time with friends and family.
Melissa grew up in New York and studied Marine Biology at the University of Rhode Island. She joined Goldsmith Veterinary Clinic in the Summer of 2021. When she isn’t working (or playing) with animals, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, reading, concerts, and going to breweries.
Morgan was born and raised in Colorado. She recently joined the Goldsmith family this fall and her favorite part is learning something new everyday! Outside of work Morgan goes to school, spends time with her family and likes to workout.
Natalie grew up in Grand Junction, CO and attended college at Colorado State University. Natalie graduated from CSU in 2013 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences. She has always had a strong passion for animals and knew she wanted to work with them from a young age. Natalie has volunteered at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, doing animal husbandry with a variety of taxa before moving to Denver. Natalie joined our team in 2016 and when she is not working Natalie also enjoys Jazzercise, riding her bike, and skiing.
Nicole grew up in Des Moines Iowa and received her Bachelors of Science in Biology with a focus on Animal Science from Iowa State University. Since then she has served with dozens of non-profits across 6 different states, including multiple zoos and animal shelters. Nicole moved to Denver with her silver Labrador, Indie, for the hiking, skiing, and live music.
Taylor grew up in Minnesota and moved to Colorado in 2011. He has been a veterinary assistant since 2018. He has two cats and a Chihuahua of his own. Taylor loves Denver for the hiking, biking, and general outdoor activities.
Val was born and raised in New Mexico. They came to Colorado for college originally wanting to become a veterinarian and completed a degree in Biology at CSU. They have a passion for science, veterinary medicine, and animal welfare which has kept them serving animals for the last 20 years. In their off-time, they enjoy breweries, eating anything with green chili, spending time with their pets, playing video games, and engaging in social justice activism.
